Sky Victor, the daughter of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo, has emotionally appealed to remain with her stepfather, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, following a reported court decision on her custody and that of her younger brother, Danny.
In an emotional Facebook Live session on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Sky said she was unhappy with the decision and wanted to continue living in the home where she had grown up with her late mother.
The teenager explained that she felt more familiar and comfortable with Tash than with her biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, who is seeking custody of the children following Betty’s death.
“I Don’t Want to Stay With Him”
Speaking during the livestream, Sky said she did not understand why she and her brother would have to leave the home they considered familiar for somewhere they did not know.
“Let me be honest, I don’t want to stay with him. I don’t know him as much as I know my dad. I would like to stay at the place I was left by my mom,” she said, referring to Tash as the father figure she knows best.
Sky also questioned the reported court decision, saying it did not reflect the wishes of the children.
She said the dispute had caused significant emotional distress for both siblings, revealing that they had spent much of the day crying and that Danny was struggling to sleep.
“I am not happy with this final judgment. And I am gonna say the truth, we need justice. This thing is against our own wishes,” she said.
Custody Dispute Following Betty Bayo’s Death
The dispute over Sky and Danny’s living arrangements intensified after Betty Bayo died on November 10, 2025, while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Following her death, the children continued living with Tash, who had helped raise them during their mother’s lifetime. Kanyari, their biological father, has also expressed his desire to care for them.
The disagreement has attracted public attention, with questions emerging over the children’s welfare, their relationship with both father figures and the importance of considering their wishes.
In previous remarks, Kanyari had indicated that he was willing to let the children remain with Tash, citing the grief surrounding Betty’s death. The latest developments suggest that the custody question remains a source of tension.
Sky Says She Wants Her Wishes Considered
Sky’s latest appeal has renewed calls for the children’s welfare and emotional needs to remain central to the legal process.
Her statements reflect her personal wishes, but the final determination of custody rests with the court and the applicable law.
The precise terms and current status of the reported custody ruling should be confirmed from the court record. Sky’s public objection does not, on its own, establish whether the ruling can be changed.
As the family navigates the dispute, the teenager’s message is clear: she wants to remain in the home she associates with her late mother and the person she considers her dad.
