Sky Victor, the daughter of late gospel singer Betty Bayo, has fought back tears while opening up about the pain of losing her mother, revealing how an ongoing custody dispute has made her grieving process even more difficult.
During an emotional Facebook Live session on Tuesday, October 27, Sky described the daily stress of dealing with the family dispute while trying to concentrate on her studies and cope with life without her mother.
The teenager said the legal battle had become a constant source of worry, leaving her counting down the days to court proceedings instead of focusing on school.
“You don’t know how much stress this has been causing me every day,” Sky said.
Sky Says Losing Her Mum Still Hurts
Sky revealed that even ordinary activities now remind her of her late mother, who played a major role in guiding her and supporting her content creation journey.
She disclosed that she had gone about two months without posting on social media because picking up a camera brought back painful memories of the moments she shared with Betty.
“Every time I pick up a camera, I feel traumatised because it reminds me of when my mum used to be the one holding it for me,” she said.
Sky added that her mother was the person who guided her and helped her understand what to do as she created content.
Despite trying to remain strong, the teenager admitted that the emotional burden was becoming difficult to bear.
“I am so tired. I know I am strong, but nguvu zinaishanga,” she said, explaining that prayer had remained an important source of comfort, a habit she attributed to her late mother.
Custody Dispute Adds to Her Pain
Sky also spoke about how the ongoing custody dispute involving her biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, and her stepfather, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, has affected her daily life.
She said she had been thinking about the case while at school and worrying about what would happen next.
“At my age, I should be making friends and having fun, not worrying about things being said about my mum, conspiracies being spread about me, or what transpired when she died,” she said.
The teenager added that the situation was affecting her well-being and making it difficult to enjoy her childhood.
The dispute has attracted widespread public attention since Betty’s death, with competing views emerging over the children’s care and living arrangements.
Sky Appeals for Help
In her emotional appeal, Sky asked Kenyans to understand the difficulties she and her younger brother, Danny, were experiencing following their mother’s death.
“You don’t know how traumatising it is to lose my mum at such a tender age. It is not fair to Danny and me. Please help us,” she said.
Her remarks came amid renewed attention on the custody case and reports of a court decision affecting where the siblings would live. In a separate statement, Sky expressed a wish to remain with Tash, saying she felt more familiar with the home where she had grown up.
Betty Bayo died on November 10, 2025, at Kenyatta National Hospital while receiving treatment for acute leukaemia. Her death left Sky and Danny without their mother and sparked a public discussion about their future care.
As the legal dispute continues, Sky’s latest appeal has brought attention back to the emotional toll the situation may be taking on the children.
Her message is a plea for understanding as she navigates grief, public scrutiny and uncertainty about her family’s future.
