French football superstar Kylian Mbappé has made history after becoming the youngest player to reach 100 appearances in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing a record previously held by Argentine legend Lionel Messi.
The Real Madrid forward achieved the milestone on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during his side’s clash against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Italy.
At 27 years and 298 days old, Mbappé surpassed Messi, who was 28 years and 84 days old when he made his 100th Champions League appearance for Barcelona in September 2015.
Mbappé Marks Milestone With Another Goal
Mbappé celebrated the landmark by finding the back of the net against Roma, taking his Champions League goal tally to 72 in 100 appearances, according to UEFA statistics published on October 14, 2026.
His goals have come while representing three major stages of his European career: Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
The French international first announced himself on the European stage with Monaco during the 2016/17 season before establishing himself as one of the world’s leading forwards at Paris Saint-Germain.
He joined Real Madrid in 2024 and has continued to deliver goals in European football’s biggest club competition.
From Teenage Sensation to Champions League Record Holder
Mbappé made his Champions League debut as a 17-year-old in September 2016, beginning a journey that has seen him rise among the competition’s most prolific scorers.
His latest achievement adds another milestone to a career that already includes a FIFA World Cup triumph with France in 2018 and a reputation for delivering on major occasions.
UEFA also reported that Mbappé finished as the Champions League’s top scorer in the 2025/26 season, recording 15 goals during the campaign.
Messi’s Record Falls as a New Era Takes Shape
For years, Messi’s achievement of reaching 100 Champions League appearances at a relatively young age stood as a notable benchmark in European football.
Mbappé has now moved ahead of the Argentine in that particular record, further strengthening his place among the leading figures of the modern game.
The milestone does not end the debate over football’s greatest players, but it highlights Mbappé’s remarkable consistency and the pace at which he has accumulated experience at the highest level.
With his 100th appearance now behind him, the Real Madrid star will be looking to add more goals, trophies and records to his growing European legacy.
